CHISENHALE GALLERY and WHITECHAPEL GALLERY invite YOU to take part in An art project about mental health.
Join 2.8 Million Minds!!
“2.8 Million Minds is about helping young people to create an image of thriving on their own terms. This is an invitation to recognise the seriousness of the situation, but also the joy of coming together and taking action” – A young artist on 2.8 Million Minds
The dates of the workshops are:
27 June
11, 25 July
1 August
Time: 6.30 to 8.00pm
You are invited to take part in an art project about mental health. In fortnightly sessions at Chisenhale Gallery in Bow, starting on the 21st of February, you will work with artist ‘the vacuum cleaner’, Cecilia Wee and an inspiring group of activists. Together, you will begin to imagine what a London-wide programme of art for mental health could be.
You need zero experience in making art. There is zero pressure to do anything you don’t want to do. All you need is a willingness to listen to and support each other. And you will be paid for your time.
About the project
Together, we will explore the question: “How can young people with mental health struggles become leaders in art-making and mental health change (without all the stress)?”
We will do this by spending time together to feel safe, letting our radical imagination flourish, and having big dreams about how artists and art spaces could better support you. It will also be silly and irreverent. We aim to bring a group of young people together and support them to change what isn’t working.
At the end of this process, we will share what you have imagined, what you have made, and the ways you have worked together at Whitechapel Gallery. What will this look like? We will figure this out together.

Hang on….. what’s 2.8 Million Minds?
This new project is part of 2.8 Million Minds (so-called because there are 2.8 million young people in London), a programme run by some artists, disabled people, art spaces and some folks from the Mayor of London’s culture team.
It began in 2022, and here are some examples of what has happened so far.
