Tower Hamlets LGBT Community Forum: May Forum Meeting

Tower Hamlets LGBT Community Forum: May Forum Meeting

You are invited to Tower Hamlets LGBT+ Community May Forum Meeting!

Wednesday 31 May / @6pm / Positive East, 159 Mile End Rd, Bethnal Green, London E1 4AQ

Guest Speaker: Amy Gibbs

Amy will be speaking to us about her experiences as a bisexual woman, LGBTQ+ visibility and leadership.

Amy is a queer woman and co-parent to two boys, aged 6 and 3. She finally came out in her late thirties as bi, after decades of repression since her teenage years, so she is passionate about LGBTQ+ visibility and leadership, in both her personal and professional life. With a career spanning charities and local government, Amy is currently Chief Exec of Tutors United, which provides free English and Maths tuition to primary school children who need it the most. She is also Chair of the Children and Young People’s Mental Health Coalition and of Tower Hamlets Together, the local integrated health and care partnership. Amy was previously CEO of Birthrights, a Director at UNICEF and The Children’s Society, and a local councillor for Bethnal Green from 2010-2018, including a stint in the council’s cabinet overseeing adults and children’s services.

BOOK YOUR PLACE

We meet twice a quarter at 6pm on the last Wednesday of the month in person to discuss local current affairs, share ideas on themes or topics and feel connected.

The Tower Hamlets LGBT Community Forum would like to welcome anyone who is interested in getting involved in the Tower Hamlets LGBT+ Forum to come along before the meeting from 5.30pm to find out more over a cup of tea. You are welcome to stay for the rest of the meeting.

About the Tower Hamlets LGBT Community Forum

The Forum is a project that aims to bring together LGBT+ people (and allies) who live, work, study or socialise in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets to discuss and have an influence on issues which affect the local LGBT community, as well as network, socialise and meet other local LGBT people.

The Forum holds monthly meetings where members come together to issues that affect the local and national LGBT community, and meet other local LGBT people for both networking and socialising. The Forum also organises quarterly social events for members, and undertakes research into the experiences of local LGBT people so that LGBT voices are heard and represented in local policy making.

Anyone, LGBT+ people and allies who live, work, study or socialise in Tower Hamlets can join the Forum, attend monthly meetings, and join in with discussion, research, and having a say on local issues. You can be a local professional or a resident – everyone is welcome.

Joining the Forum is free and easy – email LGBTforum@elop.org to request a member form.

Forum members receive monthly Newsletters and shorter ‘Newsflashes’ updating them on the dates and locations of meetings, and local LGBT news and events, as well as updates on current opportunities to get involved with local research and policy making.
