Tower Hamlets Black History Month 2023: Commissions

Tower Hamlets Black History Month 2023: Commissions

Information open meeting: Wednesday 17 May / 6.00 to 7.00pm / Brady Arts & Community Centre Hanbury Street, E1 5HU

Deadline for receipt of proposals: Monday 5 June @9am

Tower Hamlets Council is supporting Black History Month (BHM) in October 2023 with commissioning opportunities. This is not a grant; it is a commission for organisers to deliver standalone content for Black History Month on behalf of Tower Hamlets Council.

We are seeking proposals for community-focused, cultural, arts, and heritage-based activities and events that celebrate Black history, arts and culture. We can offer commission fees of between £1000 and £2000 (excluding VAT).

(There is some flexibility with dates, and we can also consider events in last week of September / first week of November).

Key Criteria
Priority will be given to proposals which demonstrate the following:
• Close alignment with Black history and culture
• A strong focus on Black arts, culture and heritage
• Delivery by an organisation either based in, or with a strong connection to the borough (Individuals will not be eligible for this commission but can work in partnership with an organisation)
• Events must take place within the borough
• All projects must have participatory elements and demonstrate targeting and engagement with Tower Hamlets residents
• Clear benefits to the local community in Tower Hamlets e.g. through participation, enjoyment, skills development, tackling loneliness and isolation, learning, progression routes etc
• Innovation and value for money
• All events and activities must give consideration to accessibility and aim to reduce barriers for participation
• Target beneficiaries – making specific reference to your target beneficiaries and specify the methods you will use to reach them and how you will measure this.

Timelines
Please complete the below form to give us details about your proposal. Please submit the form below by 9am, Monday 5 June to blackhistorymonth@towerhamlets.gov.uk. If you have any queries about the commission or process, please email as above.

Please note, the council will notify all organisations who have submitted a proposal to let them know whether they have been successful of not by close of business Friday 9 June.

Successful commissions will need to adhere to certain terms and conditions including obtaining all necessary permissions (eg for publicity), venues and licenses. (Please email blackhistorymonth@towerhamlets.gov.uk if you would like to see a copy of the legal contract template in advance). Please also note that we will be unable to feed back on individual proposals.

The council will be hosting an informal session to help potential bidders understand the council’s procurement system. Free but booking recommended. Please see full details and reserve your place at
