- You Make It programme delivers a 570% return on investment (savings on benefits + healthcare, increases in wages).
WHY THEY EXIST:
- Young women’s unemployment is at its highest since 2016, and women from a BAME background are twice as likely to be unemployed as white peers.
- Women from these backgrounds are often wrongly overlooked. Their lived experiences show enormous reserves of strength, resilience and resourcefulness which need to be better recognised so that they can reach their true potential.
- YMI Founder & CEO Asma Shah is the daughter of a single immigrant mum from Pakistan who ran away from a violent husband with 4 daughters under the age of 6. Throughout her career she wasn’t valued and didn’t fit in, undermining her sense of self-worth. She launched YMI to address these inequalities and now dedicates her life to helping women who face the struggles she has overcome.
