Tell us about your work to really involve Tower Hamlets people in service change or development
Tower Hamlets Together (THT) is a partnership of health and social care organisations[1] working closely together to improve the health and wellbeing of people living in Tower Hamlets. THT want to better embed coproduction into its work. Coproduction is when everyone (in this case the people and THT) work together equally to design service for communities needs.
To achieve this shift to working together equally, it is important we understand the extent of use of coproduction in Tower Hamlets. We want to hear of current work and work that has happened. We want to know of examples of coproduction and co-design. This helps us create a baseline to improve the use of coproduction and co-design. The point of this improvement is so that the staff who run and fund services work out how to design and deliver those services by working with the people who use those services. This is all about making the services people in Tower Hamlets want.
We have created the mapping tool below for you to help us understand your work people in Tower Hamlets, we want to know:
- how far the activity was coproduced
- what worked and what could have been better
- were any resources and/or report produced through this activity which you can share with us
- contact details of someone who can tell us more about this activity
Please complete the mapping tool so we can better under the use and extent of coproduction in Tower Hamlets. The data you provide will be compiled into a report to support a workshop we plan to hold early 2023. This workshop aims to improve the use of coproduction in THT development of health and care services.
Please complete the mapping tool form by Noon Friday 4th November 2022 and return to nelondonicb.thtcomms@nhs.net. If you want to speak to someone before completing the mapping please contact: jon.williams7@nhs.net or alison.robert@thcvs.org.uk.
We recognise this is a snapshot survey and welcome late submissions. This will help us to continue to develop a comprehensive view on how the use of coproduction is developing in Tower Hamlets

Coproduction Mapping
There is no clear definition of coproduction, therefore you are asked to provide a brief description the activity. For the purposes of this mapping exercise, we are using the Tower Hamlets Council Coproduction Framework (see annex below). We are interested in any activity which sought to be coproduced or co-design, big or small, they will all help us better understand coproduction in Tower Hamlet.
Doing with:
- Coproduction – public involved from the start of a project in an equal and reciprocal partnership
- Codesign – public involved in existing service/project development an equal and reciprocal partnership
**Worked example of the information we are seeking – please provide only a brief outline of the activity
Activity | Limehouse Wellbeing Centre: redesign of centre’s activities to help people to look after themselves better through communities activities |
Level & evidence of public involvement | Coproduction: the redesign came out of public meeting at Centre held to explore how people can look after themselves better. The meeting agreed centre users, the management, staff and funders develop a better programme of prevention activities |
What worked well | Commitment to work together equally. Arrangements to meet regularly. An agreed workplan, which was reviewed collectively. Programme of citizen research on local council estates. |
What could have worked better | Better information on funding and how to access more. Commitment from heath funders to attend all meetings. Willingness to take risks by testing new ways to involve people. Use of inclusive language (too much jargon). |
Contact for activity | A.M.Staff email: ams@lwc.org.uk Phone: 0123456789 |
