Queen’s Platinum Jubilee events in Tower Hamlets

TCHVS have been happy to support the following organisations with their Platinum Jubilee events and celebrations which we hope will be successful in bringing together the communities across Tower Hamlets to celebrate the rich diversity of the borough and its residents.


Platinum Jubilee Tea Dance:

Thursday 2 June / 12.00pm to 3.00pm / £5 / Age range: 55+

Don your glad rags and take a step back in time to celebrate the Queens Platinum Jubilee with an afternoon of sweet treats, classic vintage music & dancing at Poplar Union’s Tea Dance! Cakes, sandwiches and drinks provided!

Music from the Hotsie Totsies: In springtime 1944, 3 New York City broads moved to London, England as part of the war effort and have been making waves ever since. They go by the name of The Hotsie Totsies and with their captivating close-harmony singing, charming choreography and comedic banter there is no stopping these gals. They have performed on BBC radio, at Ascot Racecourse, Westfield, aboard HMS Belfast, and with their band at Ronnie Scott’s. Find out more here.

Queen’s Jubilee Tea Party:

Friday June 3 / 2.00 to 6.00pm

You are cordially invited to visit and participate in our Queen’s Jubilee Tea Party, which is funded by Tower Hamlets Council.

Please come along and enjoy hospitality and entertainment, please do not hesitate to encourage musicians to come along on the day. We have been advised that the Eden Project will send a photographer along and the Council may also wish to capture the event.

Competitions: Bake the best cake £30 prize, Make the best model of a royal £30 prize, Make the best crown out of waste material £10 prize


Children’s Workshop: Vandalkids’ and Art Play’s Jubilee Weekend!

Vandalkids and Art Play London are teaming up to celebrate the Jubilee weekend with a fun experiential pop up in Old Spitalfields Market! Children will be given the opportunity to decorate their own jubilee canvas bag using a range of royal stencils and prints, which they will then be able to take home with them. Please note these sessions will be 45 minutes long. Vandalkids is a new kidswear brand on a mission to challenge the industry by making clothes that enable creativity and self expression, minus the stress for parents.

Vandalkids will provide aprons but dress for mess! Suitable for ages 3-10 years.



The Lovely Jubbly Festival:

Saturday 4 June / 12 noon to 5pm

What to expect:

  • Unveiling of a new wall mural produced by young people

Platinum Sounds / Jubilee Celebrations with London House Cats Choir:

Having completed the 8-week vocal course with London House Cats Choir, participants will be invited to perform live as a part of the London House Cats Choir in celebration of the Platinum Jubilee.

Now it’s time to shine! You will sing as a part of the choir to demonstrate your improved confidence and vocal abilities that you have crafted whilst rehearsing with the London House Cats Choir. The audience will include your friends, family and loved ones who will love to see and support all that you have been achieving over the previous 8-weeks. If you have enjoyed the rehearsals and this live performance experience, you may be invited to become a full member of the London House Cats Choir.

Dendê Nation will also be gracing the stage sharing some of the Afro-Brazilian inspirations that their Sing & Play group have started to develop with their monthly sessions at Poplar Union. Find out more here.

Barkantine Estate – Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebration

Seeds for Growth charity, in partnership with the Barkantine Management Team, their tenants and residents’ association are organising the event. 

  • Apsana Begum MP will launch the new Barkantine Jubilee Orchard at 12 noon
  • Live music – community Open Mic sessions
  • Stalls – community groups and local businesses
  • Free food and drink
  • Children’s party with bouncy castles, etc.
  • Face painters
  • Vaccination mobile bus
