East London Cares

East London Cares is a community organisation, working across Hackney and Tower Hamlets to tackle loneliness by bringing older (65+) and younger people (18+) together to share time, laughter, friendship and new experiences. They do this through their Social Clubs Programme (group get togethers) and Love your Neighbour Programme (1-2-1 Friendship matching).

They collaborate with local community partners all over Tower Hamlets and Hackney to provide free, fun, fresh activities both in-person and online, for different generations to hang out and spend time with one another. They’ve hosted Drag Queen Karaoke, Choirs, Creative Writing and Karate. There is no minimum/maximum requirement of no. of clubs to attend, so you can fit it easily around people’s commitments.

As well as their free weekly Social Clubs, we also have their Love Your Neighbour programme, which matches you to an older neighbour in east London for regular, friendly weekly visits and phone calls. This means that those older people in east London who are less able to go out and about, or who have perhaps lost some social connections over the years, can feel re-connected to their local community through friendship, chatter, and laughter.

Check out their video here to see their work in action!

East London Cares are always on the lookout for:

  • New neighbours – both older and younger
  • Community partners – to collaborate on social clubs, to introduce us to a new group of people who would benefit from our
programmes, to utilise events spaces across Hackney and Tower Hamlets
  • Referrals partners – Who can regularly refer people into our programmes

If any of the above sounds interesting to you or your community please email us at hello@eastlondoncares.org.uk or use our referral link here.
