St. Hilda’s East is a local charity which aims to combat the challenges arising from deprivation and social exclusion through the delivery of a wide range of engaging activities which promote wellbeing and social connections. Located in Tower Hamlets, our services include pre-school sensory play, youth programmes, social activities and support for older people, advice, wellbeing activities for people experiencing mental health issues, and volunteering placements.

Founded in 1889 by alumnae of Cheltenham Ladies’ College, we now work from two sites – our large, friendly community Centre located in Shoreditch and an Elders Day Centre for the Bangladeshi and other communities in Shadwell.

About the role

The Marketing & Fundraising Manager will play a key role in developing and implementing St. Hilda’s East’s marketing strategy and will take the lead in organising fundraising events and securing funds from individual donations, and rental and room hire income.

They will lead on communications with external stakeholders through the development and implementation of St. Hilda’s East’s marketing plans and social media strategy. There will be a particular focus on strengthening our unique link with the Guild (alumnae) of Cheltenham Ladies’ College, as well as with parents and pupils of the school – to raise awareness of the impact of St. Hilda’s East and to organise joint events. The postholder will work alongside freelance fundraisers who focus on maximising grant income.

JOB DESCRIPTION

REPORTS TO:                  Director

SALARY:                            £37,000 (pro rata for part-time hours)

HOURS:                             3 to 5 days (22.5 to 37.5 hours) per week

ANNUAL LEAVE:           25 days plus bank holidays (pro rata for part-time hours)

WORKPLACE:                 St. Hilda’s East, Shoreditch with the option to spend time working from home

Key Responsibilities

1.      With the support of Trustees, develop and review St Hilda’s East’s marketing strategy and take the lead in its implementation.

2.      Develop and implement the organisation’s social media strategy, ensuring high quality posts and engagement across all our social media platforms.

3.      Ensure St. Hilda’s East’s website is accurate, up to date and user focused and reaches its audiences effectively.

4.      Create and distribute marketing materials and write and manage communications with external stakeholders which are consistent with SHE branding guidelines, reflect our Vision Mission and Values, describe our services and demonstrate their impact.

5.      Ensure all communications are of high quality, with a strong focus on clarity and grammatical accuracy.

6.      Develop St. Hilda’s East’s branding guidelines and review their implementation.

7.      Contribute to the development and implementation of strategies to generate income from office rental and room hire, high net worth individuals, local businesses, community fundraising and social enterprise.

8.      Develop diverse opportunities for individual giving and ensure outstanding donor stewardship.

9.      Maximise income through coordinating, publicising and executing fundraising activities, such as sponsored activities with corporate partners and ticketed events.

10.  Develop the relationship between St. Hilda’s East and the Guild, parents and pupils of Cheltenham Ladies’ College in collaboration with St. Hilda’s East’s Guild-nominated trustees.

11.  Engage and strengthen relationships with supporters by working in partnership and drafting high quality presentations and pitches.

12.  Where appropriate, line manage staff by ensuring work plans are in place, providing supportive and regular supervision and undertaking annual appraisals.

13.  Develop and implement appropriate internal systems to manage data and ensure that communications with our supporters are disseminated in a timely manner.

14.   Ensure that St. Hilda’s East is compliant with all fundraising and data protection regulations.

General Responsibilities

1.      Participate positively in regular supervision, appraisal, and training and networking events.

2.      Ensure that all St. Hilda’s East policies and procedures are adhered to, particularly those relating to data protection, safeguarding, health and safety, equal opportunities, and the environment.

3.      Undertake any other duties that may be required which are commensurate with the role.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential Criteria

1.      Experience of developing and implementing marketing strategies, ideally in a small charity setting.

2.      The ability to write eloquently and succinctly, with meticulous attention to detail.

3.      Experience of creating effective social media and website content.

4.      A commitment to St. Hilda’s East’s vision, mission and values and the ability to communicate them in a compelling way.

5.      A proactive and creative approach to solving problems and researching and developing new sources of income.

6.      Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills, including an ability to network and develop positive relationships with a diverse range of people including high net worth individuals, partners, colleagues, and service users.

7.      Competence in the use of IT, ideally including Microsoft Office, WordPress, and a CRM system (we use Beacon).

8.      A robust understanding of GDPR and data protection principles and the ability to handle personal information securely and confidentially.

9.      The ability to work positively as part of a team.

10.  The ability to manage a busy workload with multiple priorities, with experience of balancing the necessity to work at a strategic level whilst managing operational deadlines, such as those involved in planning events.

11.  An understanding of the differing needs of diverse communities and a commitment to implementing good practice around equal opportunities.

12.  Willingness to work flexibly within reason, including evenings and weekends as required.

Desirable Criteria

1.      Experience in charitable fundraising – securing funds from individual donors and/or community fundraising events
