SMiLe Film Screenings with Q&A

Thursday 6 July / 7:00pm – 9pm

Rich Mix 35-47 Bethnal Green Road London, E1 6LA

The Ben Raemers Foundation aims to end the stigma and burden that often clouds mental health issues.

This is a premiere screening of a series of short films produced by the Foundation. The films show professional skateboarders sharing their own mental health experiences. The films at this event are interviews with professional skaters Brandon Turner and John Rattray.

A Q&A with mental health and skateboarding professionals will follow the films. Our panel includes:

Brandon Turner – Brandon has been a professional skateboarder for over 23 years. He lives in San Diego and grew up in Yokosuka, Japan. He is best known for his Shorty’s “Fulfil the Dream” video and SLS tricks of the year 2020. Brandon is now CEO of Westside Recovery, inspiring those with mental health and substance abuse issues through music, skateboarding and art.

Melanie Phelps – Melanie is a senior accredited National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society member, a chartered counselling psychologist and an associate fellow of the British Psychology Society. Melanie has worked for the NHS, charities, prisons and the private sector and runs a practice near Guildford, Surrey.

Lucy Raemers – Lucy is Ben’s sister and one of the foundation’s co-founders. She is training to be a full-time Counsellor specialising in Psychodynamic therapy. She also works as a case manager specialising in suicide prevention and supporting individuals in acute mental health crises.

Craig Winnard – Craig grew up skateboarding and is now a headteacher who spent years nurturing students whilst behind the scenes battling the debilitating effects of depression himself. Recognising the need to regain control of his mental health, Craig sought alternative treatments and discovered the transformative power of hypnotherapy, NLP techniques and breathwork.
