Violence against women
– what does research tell us and what support is available in Tower Hamlets?
We are pleased to announce that this year’s safeguarding conference will be focussing on this topical theme. This year’s conference will also be held jointly across both Adult and Children’s Services as we all know that this theme affects families of all ages.
We will be hearing from Jo Neale, who is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Bedfordshire. Jo will be talking about ‘Women’s Experiences of Entering, and Enduring, Abusive Relationships’ and will be drawing on extensive PhD research.
We will also be hearing from Aysha Ahmed who will be talking about her experience of ‘Working with Bangladeshi Women and Children Experiencing Domestic Violence’. Aysha Ahmed is a registered social work professional with over 33 years of frontline and management experience in Children’s Services. Drawing on the preliminary findings from her PhD research, Aysha will discuss Bengali women’s perspectives on their experiences of domestic violence, the barriers to help-seeking that they face, and the family and religious dilemmas they are having to negotiate.
The conference will also consider the impact of the pandemic on levels of domestic violence and abuse in Tower Hamlets and hear about support available locally.
Registration is subject to confirmation.
Please note that sign up closes on 29th October and attendance is subject to confirmation in order to ensure a broad spread of attendance across the Partnerships and Agencies.
PLACES ARE LIMITED. CLICK HERE TO BOOK.
