Trustee roles at THCVS

THCVS (Tower Hamlets Council for Voluntary Service) is looking for new trustees to strengthen our board. Elections to the Board will take place at our Annual General Meeting on Thursday 29th November at Toynbee Hall.

About THCVS:

THCVS is an independent membership organisation for voluntary, community faith and social enterprise organisations in the borough of Tower Hamlets. Founded in 2010 as an umbrella support body for the local voluntary and community sector, we run a range of services including training courses, support and advice to local organisations, information and resources and a range of events and forums.  We have recently finalised our new five year plan and have an exciting plan for growth of the THCVS to deliver enhanced services to the sector.

About the Board:

The Board is responsible for the Governance and the Strategy of THCVS as well as providing support and advice to the CEO in smooth functioning of the organisation.

Our board currently has eight members; a mixture of member representatives from various Tower Hamlets charities, individual members and corporate volunteers. We are looking for a maximum of four new trustees to join us to ensure we have the capacity and skills to oversee the next phase of our work.

About the Role:

This is a good opportunity for members of the community and representatives of various charities at Tower Hamlets to help steer the direction of THCVS. You will act as an ambassador for THCVS and provide guidance to the CEO in various decision making processes as well as developing and overseeing the overall strategy of the organisation. The role also offers opportunity to understand organisational governance and develop communication, presentation and team building skills.

We are looking for representatives of new organisations, social enterprises, faith groups and small community groups as well as people from some of the larger, longer established charities in Tower Hamlets.  As a CVS in one of the most diverse boroughs of London, we are seeking to bring in more diversity on our board to ensure we continue to be representative of the sector and its concerns. If you have an interest in the local voluntary sector and would like to make significant difference to the third sector support in Tower Hamlets, we would like to hear from you.

Prior experience on boards is not necessary; we provide trustee training and support to our new Board members. We are particularly interested in applications from individuals with premises management, HR, legal, social media, entrepreneurship and campaigning experience. You can find a full role description here.

Expected Commitment:

Attendance at 4 evening board meetings a year, 4 committee meetings plus two away days. Trustees are expected to read papers in advance of each meeting and may also be asked to attend other events on THCVS’ behalf.

Positions are advertised for a period of 3 years (term may be renewed).

The roles are unpaid voluntary positions. THCVS covers out of pocket expenses for trustees.

How to apply:

If you are interested in becoming a trustee, please complete the attached nomination form and send it to peter.vittles@thcvs.org.uk by Friday 16th November 2018. The full election process is here.

Please note: You will either need to be an individual member of THCVS, or nominated by an organisational member of THCVS. If you have any queries about the process please do feel free to contact our interim CEO, Damian, at damian.brady@thcvs.org.uk. You can find a full list of current members here.

Elections to the Board of Trustees take place at our Annual General Meeting taking place on Thursday 29th November from 2.30pm at Toynbee Hall. Book your place here.

We are a collaborative, friendly team and would be happy to talk to you to help you make the decision.
