THCVS is looking for up to four people to join our board of trustees.

About the Board

The Board is responsible for the Governance and the Strategy of THCVS as well as providing support and advice to the CEO in smooth functioning of the organisation.

Our Board currently has eight members; a mixture of member representatives from various Tower Hamlets charities, individual members and corporate volunteers. We are looking for a maximum of four new trustees to join us to ensure we have the capacity and skills to oversee the next phase of our work.

About the Role

This is a good opportunity for members of the community and representatives of various charities at Tower Hamlets to help steer the direction of THCVS. You will act as an ambassador for THCVS and provide guidance to the CEO in various decision making processes as well as developing and overseeing the overall strategy of the organisation. The role also offers opportunity to understand organisational governance and develop communication, presentation and team building skills.

We are looking for representatives of new organisations, social enterprises, faith groups and small community groups as well as people from some of the larger, longer established charities in Tower Hamlets.  As a CVS in one of the most diverse boroughs of London, we are seeking to bring in more diversity on our Board to ensure we continue to be representative of the sector and its concerns. If you have an interest in the local voluntary sector and would like to make significant difference to the third sector support in Tower Hamlets, we would like to hear from you.

Prior experience on Boards is not necessary; we provide trustee training and support to our new Board members.

Expected Commitment

Attendance at 6 evening Board meetings a year, 4 committee meetings plus one or two weekend away days. Trustees are expected to read papers in advance of each meeting and may also be asked to attend other events on THCVS’ behalf. Positions are advertised for a period of 3 years (term may be renewed). The roles are unpaid voluntary positions. THCVS covers out of pocket expenses for trustees.

How to apply

If you would like to apply please read the full job advert below, complete the attached application form and send it to hafsa.ali@thcvs.org.uk by Friday 7th July 2017. You will either need to be an individual member of THCVS, or nominated by an organisational member of THCVS. If you have any queries about the process please feel free to contact our Interim CEO, Gemma Cossins at gemma.cossins@thcvs.org.uk.

We are a collaborative, friendly team and would be happy to talk to you to help you make the decision. Contact Sharon Hanooman (one of our Trustees) for an informal chat via email at sharon.hanooman@ntlworld.com. We are also holding a drop-in session for people potentially interested in joining the board on Wednesday 5th July, 5.30-6.30pm at Account 3, E2 6JY. Feel free to come along to meet current trustees and hear about the role. You can let us know you're coming here.
