Change London is targeted at London SMEs/charities. They can apply for a bursary of up to £4000 per intern (allowed up to 3 interns in a 12-month period). The intern must be aged 16-30 and have a disability or long standing health condition.

For a business to qualify, they must:

  • Have less than 250 employees
  • Have an income of less than £25m
  • For a charity to qualify, they must:
  • Have less than 250 employees
  • Have at least an income of £500,000

The aim of the scheme is to help people with disabilities gain long term employment, so it would be great if the internship led to a permanent position- of course, this may or may not work depending on the employer, funds, work load etc. Another bonus is to have flexibility with working schedule to accommodate for the intern. This can be discussed with the employer/intern to determine the best pattern.

The area of work can be in any department. Accounts, office admin, marketing, IT etc.

The Change 100 programme is different to Change London as it is an employment scheme targeted at disabled students/graduates (degree level) and can take place around the country. It is typically limited to summer placements. There is a chance to combine Change London and Change 100 for an employer depending on their needs. If they would like a student/graduate then they could apply to be an employer on Change 100. There is a fee of £3250+VAT per intern as there are alternative recruitment processes, application systems etc. – but this fee is only to cover costs, we do not make any money on this. So an employer can be a Change 100 employer but they would have to pay the fee. However, this can be coupled with Change London to pay the intern’s wage, of course the employer must meet the criteria listed above.
