Background

THCVS is an independent membership organisation for voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise organisations in the borough of Tower Hamlets. We provide information, development support and training on a wide range of issues relevant to running effective and sustainable organisations. We also aim to play an important role in representation and policy work on behalf of the sector, providing spaces for local groups to have a voice, and working with key local partners across all sectors.

  • Priority booking on all THCVS run training courses

Promotion

  • Listing on our website and directory database;
  • Publicity for organisation and services in our bulletin and magazine; let us know if you'd like to be featured in the Member Spotlight in a future edition of The Sparrow

Election

  • 1 vote per organisation at the AGM if you are a voting member
  • The right to stand for election to the Board of Trustees of the CVS

If you are applying for organisational membership, please complete the whole form on the front page of our website 'not a member', uploading your governing document, and ensure that the person that signs the declaration is someone who can represent your organisation in an official capacity at our AGM or can nominate someone else to do so. Membership is one off registration that lasts for lifetime.

 

Types of Membership:

Organisation

Membership is open to no for-profit organisations.  They must be voluntary, community, faith sector or social enterprise organisations, based in (or with a permanent presence in) Tower Hamlets, and delivering services to the Tower Hamlets community.

 

Individual

Please contact THCVS for an individual membership application form.  Individual membership is open to all individuals, working in the Voluntary and Community Service in Tower Hamlets in a paid or voluntary capacity, who do not qualify as general members through their organisations.

 

Associate

Associate Members – organisations offering projects for Tower Hamlets residents but without a permanent presence in the borough, or organisations ineligible for General Membership, who wish to stay informed about the CVS and its work.  Friends – individuals or staff from organisations who work in partnership with the CVS, but who are not eligible for individual or general membership.  Partners – organisations outside the VCS who provide a service to Tower Hamlets residents, or VCS Organisations who do not directly provide a service to Tower Hamlets residents (e.g. national organisations, and some infrastructure organisations) who work in partnership with the CVS.  Partners may include Local Authority teams and other statutory organisations, networks and businesses working in partnership with the CVS or its client group.

Our experienced Development team will assess your membership application and governing document.  Their recommendations are passed to the trustees.  Our board approves membership, we will let you know if you have been successful with your membership application.
