SUMMARY:Women\, Poverty and Equality in Tower Hamlets: Mind the Gap
DESCRIPTION:Saturday 17 December  2022 / 10:30 am to 12:30 pm via zoom
\n\n\n\nWomen\, Poverty and Equality in Tower Hamlets: Mind the Gap \nAcc
ording to recent statistics from the government\,5.13 million women in the
UK aged 16-64 were economically inactive in October-December 2021\, 24.7%
of women in this age group. This compared to 3.64 million men aged 16-64
who were inactive (17.7%).  \n\nIn addition to the statistics\, women ha
ve also seen an increase in redundancies\, unemployment\, and people claim
ing unemployment benefits since the start of the pandemic. Mothers\, and w
omen from minority ethnic groups\, have been particularly affected by the
pandemic. This means that women are most likely to experience poverty than
men. Many are now unable to afford the essentials they need to live a dig
nified life\, such as adequate clothing\, sufficient food for their themse
lves and/or for their children\, or heating for their homes.  \n\nThis T
H Women’s Network gathering will aim to address\, discuss\, and share ou
r concerns as to why women are poorer than men? What can we do about it? H
ow can we reduce the gap and get women living in Tower Hamlets  into well
paid secure jobs? \n\nThe conversation will be facilitated by Inderjit S
ohata\, from the Women's Resource Centre. Inderjit is passionate about mak
ing a difference for marginalised communities which comes from her own lif
e experiences and entrepreneurial roots. Inderjit has lived experiences of
social injustices and inequalities as a woman from the Black and minoriti
sed community. She has over 25 years of experience of leading work across
the Black and minoritised community and voluntary sector to embed and stre
ngthen community cohesion. Inderjit has extensive experience of empowering
women from minoritised groups\, instrumental in setting up a women’s ce
ntre in the Midlands. To confirm your attendance at the gathering\, and t
