 ness and Management at Queen Mary University of London are excited to welc
 ome Catherine Johnstone CBE\, Chief Executive of the Royal Voluntary Servi
 ce\, onto campus for a Spotlight talk on Leadership!\n\nCatherine will be
  discussing her career journey into senior leadership\, any challenges wit
 h such a career and advice for others looking to become a leader themselve
 s. We will be supported in the discussions by Matt Hyde OBE\, Chief Execut
 ive of Scouts\, who in collaboration with Catherine has recently worked to
  develop The Big Help Out. Set to start on Monday 8th May\, The Big Help O
 ut aims to achieve the greatest single mobilisation of volunteers in recen
 t memory.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCatherine Johnstone CBE Biography\n\nCatherine has 
 been leading Royal Voluntary service as Chief Executive since August 2017.
  Starting her career as a trained nurse in the NHS\, she has extensive exp
 erience across all sectors building innovative and sustainable services an
 d inspiring and enabling voluntary action. Her key passions are frontline 
 service delivery and enabling the gift of voluntary service which recently
  saw her leading the development of a number of large-scale initiatives to
  support the NHS and our communities during the Covid-19 pandemic.\n\nBefo
 re joining Royal Voluntary Service\, Catherine was Chief Executive of Sama
 ritans\, which provides confidential support to anyone experiencing a toug
 h time in their life. Whilst at the helm for almost 7 years\, Catherine wa
 s responsible for developing a long-term strategy that saw the organisatio
 n become the thought leader of suicide prevention and innovator of postven
 tion services in the UK. This resulted in her being awarded a CBE in 2016 
 for services to suicide prevention. Catherine was fortunate enough to also
  spend some time working in the Asylum and Refugee support sector which in
  her own words was exceptionally humbling and tough.\n\nIn her career Cath
 erine is also well known for her leadership roles across the world of volu
 nteer infrastructure having held CEO roles in CVS/Volunteer Bureau and Com
 munity Action organisations. As Chair of Directory of Social Change for ma
 ny years she understands the key role that small charities make to their l
 ocal communities. With a keen appetite for collaboration\, Catherine has r
 ecently led the development of Shaping the Future With Volunteering coalit
 ion that she now Co Chairs with Matt Hyde. She was recently appointed as V
 ice Chair of the Richmond Group.\n\nHer time as CEO of NDPB national fundi
 ng agency\, Capacitybuilders placed her at the heart of government and VCS
  funding decisions. The breadth of experience that Catherine has been able
  to secure also included a period of time working in the Asylum and Refuge
 e support sector. Catherine is particularly proud of her five children and
  three grandchildren who keep her grounded and eternally entertained and b
