SUMMARY:Charity Structures
DESCRIPTION:Do you want to know what makes an organisation an organisation?
Let us talk you through the basics\, step by step.\n\nBOOK HERE\nThis is
an online practical workshop\, we highly recommend you join the session fr
om a computer or tablet that allows you to participate in the activities.\
nDo you want to know what makes an organisation an organisation? Are you a
ware of how and when why you might want to register as a charity or a comp
any? \nMaking the transition from idea to organisation can feel like a dif
ficult leap. The way your new organisation is structured\, the type of leg
al status you adopt\, and the regulator you report to will all affect the
way you need to run things\, your access to funding\, and the way you are
perceived. For many staff members and even for some trustees\, the legal a
nd structural aspects of running a voluntary organisation are somewhat haz
y\, and once the basics are in place it’s all too easy to forget to go b
ack and check what else might be necessary or possible. \n This informal w
orkshop will take you through the basics of organisational structures\, go
vernance and regulation and update you on some of the practical changes th
at have now started to come through since the Charities Act 2006\, includi
ng the creation of the new Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). \n
Who should attend? \n This workshop is suitable for: \n\n\n Founders and
board members of very new organisations who are still in the process of fi
nalising their governance arrangements \n New trustees looking for an ove
rview of how voluntary organisations work and what their responsibilities
are likely to be \n Trustees and staff/volunteers of organisations that a
re going through\, or looking to go through\, a phase of organisational ch
ange – for example\, changing legal status\, taking on a new piece of wo
rk\, or re-writing their constitution. \n\nAims: \n\n\n To provide an acc
essible\, flexible introduction to organisational structures and charity l
aw \n To give participants an overview of the organisational structures a
nd governance arrangements available to voluntary and community organisati
ons \n To provide an update on changes to charity\, company and related l
aw that might affect the way voluntary and community organisations work \n
To address common concerns and misconceptions about organisational issue
s \n\n Learning outcomes: \n As a result of attending this session\, parti
cipants will: \n1. What is an organisation\, and what makes an organisatio
n charitable \n2. Be able to distinguish between an unincorporated associa
 tion\, a registered charity\, a company limited by guarantee\, a community
interest company and a charitable incorporated organisation \n3. Understa
nd the key advantages and disadvantages of each of the above organisationa
l structures\, and their implications for board members \n“Please note t
his event is aimed at Voluntary Organisations based or delivering work in
the borough of Tower Hamlets\, we have limited places so we will give prio
 rity to these groups.”
