SUMMARY:2.8 Million Minds
DESCRIPTION:CHISENHALE GALLERY and WHITECHAPEL GALLERY invite YOU to take p
art in An art project about mental health.\n\nJoin 2.8 Million Minds!!\n\n
“2.8 Million Minds is about helping young people to create an image of t
hriving on their own terms. This is an invitation to recognise the serious
ness of the situation\, but also the joy of coming together and taking act
ion” - A young artist on 2.8 Million Minds\n\n\n\nThe dates of the works
 hops are: \n\n16\, 30 May \n\n13\, 27 June\n\n 11\, 25 July \n\n1 August\n
\nTime: 6.30 to 8.00pm\n\n\n\nYou are invited to take part in an art proje
ct about mental health. In fortnightly sessions at Chisenhale Gallery in B
ow\, starting on the 21st of February\, you will work with artist ‘the v
acuum cleaner’\, Cecilia Wee and an inspiring group of activists. Togeth
er\, you will begin to imagine what a London-wide programme of art for men
tal health could be.\n\nYou need zero experience in making art. There is z
ero pressure to do anything you don’t want to do. All you need is a will
ingness to listen to and support each other. And you will be paid for your
time.\n\nAbout the project\n\nTogether\, we will explore the question:
“How can young people with mental health struggles become leaders in art
-making and mental health change (without all the stress)?” \n\nWe will
do this by spending time together to feel safe\, letting our radical imagi
nation flourish\, and having big dreams about how artists and art spaces c
ould better support you. It will also be silly and irreverent. We aim to b
ring a group of young people together and support them to change what isn
’t working.\n\nAt the end of this process\, we will share what you have
imagined\, what you have made\, and the ways you have worked together at W
hitechapel Gallery. What will this look like? We will figure this out toge
ther.\n\nKey Information\n\n 2.8 Million Minds is open to young people wh
o have experienced struggles with their mental health\, and young carers.\
n This project is for people aged 16-25 who live in Tower Hamlets and sur
rounding areas.\n You will be paid the London Living Wage (£12p/h) for y
our time. We will also cover costs relating to travel on public transport.
\n The sessions will take place fortnightly from 6:30-8 PM\, starting on
Tuesday 21st of February\, at Chisenhale Gallery in Bow (address below). Y
ou do not need to attend all of the sessions.\n\nIf you’d like to take p
art\, to hear more\, or know someone who might be interested\, contact Set
 h at: seth.pimlott@chisenhale.org.uk or on 07557384717 (between 10-6\, Mon
 -Fri).\n\n\n\nHang on..... what’s 2.8 Million Minds? \n\nThis new projec
t is part of 2.8 Million Minds (so-called because there are 2.8 million yo
ung people in London)\, a programme run by some artists\, disabled people\
, art spaces and some folks from the Mayor of London’s culture team.\n\n
It began in 2022\, and here are some examples of what has happened so far.
